About the Workshop:

  • Participants will understand the landscape of domestic abuse, domestic violence, and intimate partner violence and its implications on the therapeutic environment.
  • Participants will learn about evidence-based practices in batterer and victim intervention programs including how to incorporate those practices into their own treatment planning.
  • Participants will have an awareness of themes in therapy that are attributed to ongoing abuse in any form.
  • Participants will gain confidence in addressing and challenging abusive behaviors both covert and overt.

Presenter:  Hector R. Matascastillo MSW, LICSW, LSSW
Hector R. Matascastillo is a nationally recognized and critically reviewed developer of batterer intervention programs specifically noted for Change Step TM adopted by the Domestic Abuse Project and the Department of the Air Force among other agencies. The Relational Health Program at Life Development Resources, P.A. is the next level of batterer intervention treatment focusing on batterer and victim programming through the use of intensive outpatient, evidence- based modalities to handle stage I treatment targets eventually leading into stage II making it trauma informed as well as behaviorally appropriate (Fruzetti, et al, University of Nevada).
